Resource Guide: Pesticides

Pesticides are toxic chemicals designed to kill living things. They also lead to birth defects, learning disabilities and cancers in humans and animals.
Farmers who work on farms where pesticides are used are at the greatest risk, as are those who live in farm communities where the pesticides lurk in the air, land, and water. Children who live in farm communities where pesticides are used on nearby fields have higher than average rates of asthma and other ailments. People who work in the pesticide factories and those who live near the factories are also at risk.
When you purchase food, cosmetics, and fabrics, seek out those that have been grown without the use of pesticides.
